OHIO HOUSE
Private Residence
Wooster, Ohio
Construction: 2003
2300 sq. ft.
This renovation and addition for an academic couple began with an existing home built in the
1950s. The clients have an extensive collection of films and books, which they wanted to
store and display more effectively; the original layout broke the house into many small
rooms that no longer served their needs.
The design solution was a combination of a complete renovation and the addition
of three elements which logically expanded the house. Partition walls separating the kitchen and living
room were removed, creating a single large living, dining and kitchen area to facilitate entertaining.
The sculptural additions are all clad in western red cedar designed to transition from the hip-roof into
a carved volume. The ample interior cabinetry utilizes multiple built-in
cabinets and drawers to maximize the efficiency of storage for the clients.
